Wyze has released a new AI-powered video search feature for its best home security cameras It can quickly export specific text prompts to find matching events within the app This eliminates the need to manually sort through each camera's timeline and thumbnails to pull up the clip you are looking for
AI-Fueled Video Search is a unique feature accessible only to Wyze Cam owners who subscribe to the company's Cam Unlimited subscription The same plan also unlocks other advanced features such as facial recognition I had a chance to play around a bit with this new feature before the big rollout today Here's how it worked during the preview period
After updating the Wyze app to the latest version, a small magnifying glass button was added to the right corner of the “Events” tab Clicking on this icon opens a search box where you can enter a vague or very specific text description In my tests, searching for “white dog” and “tall man” instantly found clips of the offender causing the motion event
The more detailed the system became, the more it struggled The “white dog” accurately spotted my pet, but the results missed clips that put the dog front and center earlier in the day; Wyze says the system can identify certain things like “trash cans, yard tools, and even attributes such as color and shape When searching for clips of “blue shirt,” “stroller,” and “trash bag,” the AI did not find any matching videos
This video search AI is powered by the company's proprietary Wyze Vision Language Model It is an in-house solution built by a lean, independent team; we do not expect Google or Meta levels of accuracy, but it will require a bit more training before it is fully complete Over time, with user contributions, it will be able to better recognize everyday objects like trash cans and tools At this point, it is easier to find people, animals, cars, and packages at a particular time of day than it is to manually search for thumbnails
This feature serves its purpose, which is to quickly monitor what you care about Just be moderate in your expectations; Wyze used “Show me the delivery man with the red roses” as an example of a prompt, but I have yet to use this system However, the prompt “Please show me my dog in the backyard” works very well
AI-Fueled Video Search will cost Wyze Cam owners $999 per month as a Cam Unlimited subscription fee But with advanced features like facial recognition and cloud storage, this is not a bad deal for your all-budget Wyze Cam; without a Wyze subscription, notifications are limited by an artificial cooldown period, and the subject is a person, luggage, or animal Remember, you lose the core AI detection that tells you if the subject is a person, luggage, or animal This tool is an exciting first step for generative AI in home security cameras, and we look forward to seeing how this tool inspires competitors like Eufy and Ring in the future
