Ring Security Cameras Get Four Major Upgrades - Including 24/7 Video Recording

In an effort to keep up with the best home security cameras, Ring has added four new features to its devices and rebranded its subscriptions

The new features, such as 24/7 video recording, are intended to give Ring camera owners more knowledge about what is happening around their homes Here is a brief overview of each new feature, when it will be available, and on which devices

Ring cameras will now be able to record 24/7 video for up to 14 days and capture events that occur outside of the motion zone This feature will initially be available on the Ring Stick Up Cam and Stick Up Cam Pro, Indoor Cam 2nd Gen, and Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam, and will only be available to those who subscribe to Ring Home Premium for $1999 per month

To reduce the time it takes to respond when someone comes to your front door, Doorbell Calls allows you to answer the doorbell buzzer as you would answer a phone call and see a live view from the doorbell camera This feature is available on all Ring video doorbells

When someone rings the doorbell or triggers a motion alert, the Ring camera provides a thumbnail image to the phone, but the push notification now includes a short video clip, and you can open the Ring app to see the live view and the person on the other side and provide better context before deciding whether to talk to them

Extended Live View allows for up to 30 minutes of live view from the camera On battery-powered cameras, you may not want to use this feature because it drains the battery quickly, but it is useful to have This feature works with all of Ring's newer cameras and video doorbells, including pan/tilt indoor cams, battery doorbells, spotlight cams, and floodlight cams

Continuous Live View is essentially the same feature, but longer and only available on cameras with 24/7 recording enabled

All of these Ring features will begin rolling out this month and will be fully available by November 5 24/7 continuous recording will only appeal to those who want to pay for Ring's premium tier, but it will also be available to those who want to use Ring's service with Arlo or Nest ( The latter offers 24/7 recording for only $15/month, but only offers 10 days of recording history, a welcome addition that puts it in the same line as Arlo and Nest

Still, Ring's plan is one of the best security camera storage plans for the amount of recording history it gives you Also, with a local base station, continuous recording is possible with Eufy's cameras

Much more useful for more Ring owners are the video preview alerts and doorbell calls, which will be used much more often and by more people
