Recent leaks of the Oura Ring 4 confirm that a next-generation smart ring by the Finnish company is on the horizon Samsung's Galaxy Ring has been launched and has already been hailed as Oura's biggest competitor to date

To compete with Samsung's product, the Oura Gen 3 smart ring has already released some interesting new health features, including a stress management tool The Gen-4 also looks to add two new styles to its lineup

For many, the upgrade comes too late, but what else can we expect from the company's next ring? Currently, there is no specific release date for Oura Ring 4, but rumors suggest that it will be available by the end of 2024 This would coincide with previous Gen-3 releases, so we may not have to wait much longer for the new model to become available

As reported by Android Authority, Oura has submitted two new smart rings (OA11 and OA12) for certification, but so far we only have details on the OA11 and it appears that Oura is testing rings in sizes 7-13 in gold

Android Authority has also released images of the ring design, which at this stage follows the circular, flat design of the Horizon model and looks quite similar to the Gen 3 However, the Smart Ring has sensors on the inside, which may make the ring slightly bulkier

Nevertheless, independent testing has shown that the Oura ring is much more comfortable to wear than the "slimmest" Circular Slim ring on the market

Another model (OA12) is also being tested and may be an upgrade of the Oura Heritage edition It is hard to say at this stage

From the test images shared, the sensors appear to be flush with the inside of the ring, rather than holding the raised ones used in Gen-3 The Gen-3 model has three LED sensors inside the ring They are an infrared (PPG) sensor that measures heart rate and respiration, an NTC sensor that measures body temperature, and a 3D accelerometer that measures movement Together, they track sleep, activity, and readiness

It is recommended that the ring be worn so that the sensors are positioned on the medial (palm side) of the fingers near the radial artery, and Oura reports a 999% reliability score compared to medical grade ECGs oura plans to improve or upgrade these sensors in the next model It will be interesting to see if and how Oura plans to improve or upgrade these sensors in their next models

While there is no specific information at this time on what features we might see, it is likely that the Oura Ring 4 will offer performance upgrades based on its hardware and potential additions to its current sleep and stress-related features

Oura's current Gen-3 models range from $299 to $399 and require a $599 monthly membership fee (first 6 months free) at the time of purchase; the Oura Ring 4's price is still unknown but can be expected to sell for a similar $299 plus monthly membership This is an important factor considering that Samsung's Galaxy Ring costs $399, comes in sizes 5-13, and does not require ongoing monthly billing
