Filmmaker Roland Emmerich is no stranger to large-scale spectacle In this new series, Roland Emmerich, director of such blockbusters as "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow," turns his attention to ancient Rome and the brutal gladiatorial games that fueled the bloodlust of Roman citizens and helped the elite class maintain power Anthony Hopkins plays the Roman Emperor Vespasian, and is flanked by Ian Leung (Game of Thrones) and Sarah Martins (Death in Paradise)

The series was developed by Emmerich's longtime collaborator Robert Rodat Rodat worked on Emmerich's films Patriot and 10,000 BC, and adapted the classic nonfiction book written by Daniel P Mannix in 1958 Gladiators have been a screen staple since the dawn of cinema, and Emmerich put his distinctive, over-the-top stamp on this venerable genre with The Dying

Peacock is the main home for coverage of this year's Summer Olympics in Paris, France This means that it will broadcast all competitions, including popular events such as swimming, gymnastics, and tennis, for a total of 329 medal events and over 5,000 hours of programming If this sounds too overwhelming, Peacock's daily live program, "Gold Zone," will take viewers to the most important competitions with highlights and commentary
