Apple is introducing new categories to the Photos app in iOS 18 to make it easier for users to find different types of images
In fact, iOS 18 is about to make some major changes to the Photos app as a whole One seemingly sideways change, however, is the "Utilities" section, which has been overhauled to make it easier to find different types of images
The list first reported by MacRumors is considerably more extensive than the current options
The utilities reside in the Albums tab of Photos, and currently iOS 17 only offers the following options: import, duplicates, hide, and recently deleted However, it appears that iOS 18 will add several new categories:
There will also be changes to the "Media Types" section just above the utility on the album tab, adding an "Animation" category
Both the "Animation" and "Illustration" categories are probably aimed at the new image generation features that will be part of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 However, it is unclear what they will do on devices that cannot use Apple's new AI
At the recent WWDC, Apple showed off some of the new image generation features that will be included in iOS 18 According to the presentation, users can generate new images in three different styles using a series of prompts, which can be placed in a message with a few taps on the screen They will also be able to use AI to generate their own emojis or use a friend's notepad to create personalized emojis (pictured above)
These new categories will greatly help users find the photo they want to send, no matter when it was taken
This is great news, especially when you want to show off images taken with the iPhone 15 Pro Max's amazing camera If you want to know more about the new features announced by Apple, check out our blog summarizing the main announcements from WWDC
