Google Tensor G5 can debut with Pixel10 and could be the first real chip made by Google

I've heard a lot of rumors about Google Pixel10, and how Tensor G5 will be the first Tensor chip built and designed by Google itself According to a new report from the Android Authority, it sounds like TSMC will be in charge of making Tensor G5 — no technology or input from Samsung

The site reveals trade reports from publicly accessible trade databases, suggesting that TSMC will build Tensor chipsets next year These databases are records of goods imported and exported from different countries and into the hands of third parties This is how Android Authority discovered the Tensor G5 sample

These reports appear to indicate what Android authorities suspect is an abbreviated version of the g5's "Laguna Beach" code name, called "LGA" Other caveats include a "A0" suggesting that this is the first version of this chip, as well as mention of TSMC and its exclusive InFO POP packaging technology

There are other details, but it seems that all of them will be added to chips that aren't ready to release until next fall The report also notes that the chip will have 16GB of package-on-package RAM The Pixel9Pro is rumored to have 16GB of RAM, but if that doesn't happen for some reason, the Pixel10 definitely looks like it will

Tensor's reliance on Samsung hardware has always been seen as the chip's biggest weakness When news broke that Google was developing its own chip, some were imagining pixels taking cues from Apple's iPhone The idea that the phone, the chip and the Android operating system were all made by the same person could lead to a more optimized version of all 3

Samsung's chips are usually considered to be less efficient and thermally regulated compared to Qualcomm and Apple's rivals Tensors' capabilities are limited to some extent because they are limited to adapting their technology rather than building their own chips from scratch Being free from what Samsung has to offer could give Google the ability to create Tensor chips that we've wanted for years

It may not happen immediately, and Google rarely knocks it out of the park on its first attempt But that should give the Pixel team the freedom and opportunity to develop tensor

How it appears is not entirely clear for now and we are 16-17 months away from finding it Perhaps it will include better AI, image processing and security features — I hope Google will make some progress in improving efficiency and power consumption, especially from 5G mode In the meantime, you can stay up to date with all the latest news and rumors of this year's Pixel release on the google Pixel9, Google Pixel9Pro and Google Pixel Fold2 hubs
