It looks like Google has added a new gimmick to its Google Phone app Basically, this is an emoji button that is present during a call, and when pressed, plays a stock sound and visual effect

Yeah, one is a poop emoji, so you can imagine what it sounds like I really wonder who would want this and why Google thought it was a good idea in the first place

The other five voice emojis include clap, laugh, party, cry, and drum These sounds can be heard on both sides of the call, presumably meaning that you can express some emotion without letting the other person see what you are actually feeling

In other words, you don't want to disarm the faceless persona, but you still want to show that you are not an emotionless robot Or because you want to interrupt a call with a constant farting sound

Thankfully, 9to5Google reports that there is a cooldown between emojis, so you only have to press and hold one button to drown out the rest of the call with obnoxious or disruptive sound effects

There are two ways to enable voice emojis From the overflow (or three-dot) menu in the phone interface or by tapping the "Audio Emoji" toggle on the call screen It is also possible to turn off audio emojis in the settings, which we suspect most people will do after experiencing this feature in action

Honestly, I am not sure why Google would do this or why they thought this was a good idea I can understand using emojis in a text message or in a video conference with just a few people, but adding emojis to a one-on-one phone conversation seems completely redundant

All you need to do is use your own words and not make fart noises in polite conversation It's really quite simple So this is certainly a feature I would not be without It remains to be seen when this feature will be released to the public, but I'm sure it's something that Google would welcome taking the time to develop
