Officially the Giro del Trentino, but renamed the Tour of the Alps in 2016, this short stage race is based in the Tyrol, Sud-Tyrol, and Trentino regions of Italy and Austria, just weeks before the Giro d'Italia opens in May, and gives riders to experience the mountains in earnest a few weeks before the Giro d'Italia begins in May
Here's how to watch the Tour of the Alps 2024 live stream from anywhere using a VPN, and for free
The race starts in Italy, heads north to Austria, and finishes back in Italy five days later
Last year's winner, Tao Geoghegan Hart, will be absent, and his new team, Lidl Trek, will send a twin attack of Giulio Ciccone and Juan Pedro Lopez instead His old team, Ineos Grenadiers, will look to veteran Geraint Thomas to challenge for the championship and bring home another win to retain the title
Ineos will also send time trial ace Filippo Ganna, who will be supporting Thomas with Romain Bardet (Team DSM Firmenich-Post NL), Leonard Chemna (Bora-Hansgrohe), and Hugh Kersee (EF Education= Easy Post) and others will only fend off the challenge, not challenge the overall contenders

The 709km race starts in Neumarkt/Egna and opens with a 133km stage featuring three gentle climbs, first the Andalo climb and then two small 43km Pennone climbs on the finish circuit
The second stage starts in Sarlun/Salorno, Italy and crosses into Austria to finish in Stanz The first half of the stage will be uphill and the second half will be mainly downhill, but there are a few small slopes that could be the starting point for attacks
The third stage in Austria is 1248 km long and is mostly undulating until the two climbs in the finale, the Wehrberg and the Pilberg Both are very steep, with gradients in the mid-10km range, making this a great course for riders who like punchy, short climbs and are looking for a stage win
Back in Italy, stage 4 is the queen stage, with multiple climbs awaiting, including two first class climbs on the Passo del Competto and Passo del Vetriolo GC contenders for the overall win will have to show their skills on this stage and demonstrate their superior climbing ability
The race will conclude with another killer stage, the first class Pal del Felsina, a very short stage at 118 km, but one that will determine the winner of the 2024 edition
