Nintendos 2 could be disappointingly underpowered - here's what we know

For the last few console generations, Nintendo's hardware has lagged behind its rivals in terms of power, and according to new leaked information, that trend is likely to continue with the Nintendo Switch 2

If this (as of yet unconfirmed) spec sheet is accurate, the Switch successor will not be as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X, nor will it be as powerful as the Xbox Series S Eccleston has some good news about the Switch 2's specs Eccleston said that the Switch 2 specs, while sprinkled with some good news, are a little underwhelming

According to this tech YouTuber's latest video, the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature an 8-core Cortex-A78AE processor, 10 streaming multiprocessors (SM), 8GB of RAM, and just 64GB of eMMC storage

The same source claims that the Switch 2's visuals will be "roughly equivalent to the PS4 when docked," but notes that "the comparison is not exactly one-to-one" While these specs will be an upgrade over the original Switch, Nintendo's new hardware will not be able to compete with the current generation of consoles

On a more positive note, the same source suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a 7-inch OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate This, however, contradicts earlier rumors claiming that Nintendo will use an LCD panel for the upcoming Switch system

Eccleston's sources also indicate that the Switch 2 will be fully backward compatible with all the best Nintendo Switch games as well as many accessories released for the hybrid hardware

In the same video, Ecclestone also mentions the possibility that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in two models: the regular Switch 2 and the powered-up Nintendo Switch 2 Pro

This more powerful version of the console could have 12 GB of RAM and 12 SM This overall increase in power would help performance, but would still not be as good as Sony's or Microsoft's latest game consoles Nevertheless, the Switch 2 Pro could be a solid solution to the performance issues that arise from Nintendo releasing a relatively underpowered base model

However, Eccleston would not bet on it just yet, as he stated, "I wouldn't put a lot of faith in [the Switch Pro] being released, because Nintendo is always canceling things" Nintendo may also prefer to release only the Switch 2 SKU for simplicity's sake

While there is a lot of interesting information in this video, it is important to note that for now, all of these details should be classified as speculation There are no confirmed facts in this video Until there is some sort of official announcement from Nintendo themselves, all of the Switch 2 specs we have are just rumors

Nintendo Switch 2 rumors continue to spit out new information on a regular basis, and with various sources claiming that the long-awaited successor to the best-selling Nintendo Switch will launch this year, we can expect to get more concrete information soon

Nevertheless, when the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo's next piece of hardware will ultimately be called, is officially announced, expect the internal specifications to be a bit more impressive than those described in this latest rumor
