Samsung Unveils Fully Bendable OLED Display - This Could Be the Future of Cell Phones

At MWC2024, Samsung unveiled its most bendable OLED concept to date, called the Samsung Clingband This screen can be bent into a dome shape with little effort

Samsung was not the only company to showcase this concept; Motorola also unveiled a new bendable concept that can be attached to a magnetic strap to make it wearable While Motorola's unnamed design was more sophisticated, there are some interesting aspects of Samsung's design worth exploring, as well as other novel uses of OLEDs they showed off

We didn't get a chance to see the device ourselves, but according to CNET's Katie Collins, the OLED screen remains remarkably smooth even when curved Perhaps the screen at MWC was limited to basic scrolling, often with random zooming in and out, but it looked best while scrolling through the photo gallery

Samsung seemed to have a wealth of interesting ideas to show off at MWC For example, the "Flex Magic Pixel" adjusts the viewing angle of the screen to protect privacy, making it harder for people to see the screen in use

This technology combines Samsung's OLED technology with its AI capabilities to make it nearly impossible to read the screen unless looking directly at it

Samsung also showed off a small device with an OLED panel that conveys pieces of information at a glance, and seems to be experimenting with what OLED technology can do and how it can be successfully integrated into our lives

For example, it could display whether a car key is locked or unlocked This seems a bit extravagant, but no more excessive than a lawnmower that plays DOOM, a product that was actually in action at this year's MWC

OLED applications show the future potential of phones and other technologies, but they still need a lot of work to perfect them However, while the idea of having a phone wristband may seem a bit over-the-top compared to something like Samsung's Galaxy Ring, it shows that there are new areas for developers to explore when it comes to screen technology

Foldable screens are just a few of the wonders that were available at MWC We have a full roundup of the top 10 gadgets we found during our time at MWC 2024, as well as day one and day two
