It was recently reported that new and improved accessibility features are underway in both iOS 18 and macOS 15
MacRumors, with the help of industry sources, has outlined some of the accessibility improvements planned for the future It should be noted, however, that there is no firm date as to when these will be available
The first feature is called Adaptive Voice Shortcuts, which allows users to link their own voice phrases to accessibility settings This feature is expected to make certain tasks smoother by allowing users to control specific parts of their Apple devices with verbal commands So far, this feature is reported to work with: VoiceOver, Voice Control, and Zoom
It will also improve upon the Live Speech feature introduced in iOS 17 This update will allow users to organize phrases into categories and add icons and names While this may not seem like a huge addition, it will be a lifesaver for those who use many different phrases and want to keep everything organized for easy reference
Finally, it appears that Apple plans to expand support for the text size adjustment feature This feature is located in the "Display" section of the "Accessibility" settings panel and allows users to select custom font sizes in individual apps or to choose their preferred font size when reading According to the report, the apps to be added are Books, News, Tips, Weather, and Stocks
MacRumors also states that several other features were in development, including one that utilizes eye tracking on the device, although no further information was given
It is important to note that just because Apple is developing these features does not mean we will see them in the next update We will only know what will be included when Apple makes an official announcement The date for this announcement has not yet been set, but it will probably take place during WWDC 2024
With this news, iOS 18 is likely to be one of the biggest software updates in iPhone history, according to Bloomberg's Mark Garman
