According to Gurman, these new AirPods, codenamed B768(E) and B768(M), are designed to replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 currently on sale Apparently the (E) model is the "entry" pair of AirPods and the (M) model is the "mid-tier" I am guessing that the (M) model is what will eventually be called the AirPods 4

It appears to be a pair designed to sit below the AirPods Pro 2 and will no doubt feature the right features and price The mid-tier buds will feature active noise cancellation and a "Find My Speaker" built into the charging case (which will play a sound from the case if it is lost) Both models are also expected to feature a new design, improved fit, and a USB-C charging case

These new AirPods are expected to arrive in September or October and could be released along with the new iPhone 16 This may not be the case, as Apple has made a number of quieter, stand-alone product announcements in recent years Apparently, this is Apple's attempt to enter the low-priced market, something it has avoided for years

As for the AirPods Pro 3, Garman said it could be available as early as next year He previously claimed that these new buds have been in development for several years and may even include a low-resolution camera to scan their surroundings Why? Perhaps for some sort of mixed reality feature and for additional accessibility features for visually impaired users

Not much else is known about these three upcoming AirPods models However, Gurman also noted that iOS 18 could launch along with significant software updates for Apple's AirPods, including the AirPods Pro hearing aid feature, assuming FDA approval is granted
