Adobe has integrated its AI image generator Firefly into its 3D modeling suite Substance 3D This includes creating textures from text prompts
After being recently extended to Adobe Express, two new Firefly-powered features have been included in Substance 3D and may be included in other Adobe products in the future
The first is text-to-texture conversion, which generates photorealistic or stylized textures that can be applied to the surface of a 3D model
This can be done using simple text prompts, eliminating the need to use stock photos as samples of the desired textures
An Adobe video illustrating how this feature works shows how a designer used the prompt "Complete dirt ground with large and small rocks" to generate a number of textures that could be applied to the ground in a scene
After finding one he liked, he used it as a starting point for his design and refined it by adding water and adjusting other parameters to bring the scene to life
Next, the latest release of Substance 3D includes a new generative background feature Again, you can create detailed background images with text prompts and seamlessly composite objects into your scene with intelligent perspective and lighting matching
In another demo video, a second designer needed an abstract background to accompany a 3D model of headphones Again, with the text prompt "abstract wave swirl," Substance 3D gave four choices Perspective and lighting were again matched to the image
The Substance 3D stager can also be used to generate a 3D environment in which to place the production Don't have the budget to send a team to shoot a product on a sandy beach? Adobe Substance 3D could be a good option
The beta versions of Substance 3D Sampler 44 and Stager 30, with new Text to Texture and Generative Background features, will be available to all Substance 3D users on March 18
