Threads can now be deleted without losing Instagram

If you have a Threads account, you know that Meta's new Twitter-like social network has the same login system as Instagram Since you can basically use both services with one account, it wasn't ideal that deleting one would also delete the other Thankfully, that is no longer the case

Instagram CEO Adam Mosely announced the news earlier this week, revealing that the latest version of the Threads mobile app allows users to delete their Threads accounts without affecting Instagram This is a feature that users have been asking for since Threads was first launched For users who want to stick with Instagram in case they get tired of the new service

All you have to do is head to Settings > Account and select the option to Delete Profile or Deactivate Profile Deactivate will put your profile into a kind of hibernation, removing it from public view Deactivate puts your profile in a kind of hibernation, but leaves the option to come back and reactivate it at some point Deletion removes your threaded profile from the human world

It remains to be seen if this will work in reverse, allowing users to delete their instagrams without affecting their threads We'll just have to wait and see what happens If it should, be sure to let Meta know

That's not all that has changed; Modderi also confirmed that users will have more control over which thread posts are shared to Instagram and Facebook More specifically, they will be able to opt out of this feature altogether

because sometimes you want to keep posts fairly restrained and don't want to suggest them to others on different networks You can opt out in Settings > Privacy

Threads has definitely been a work in progress since its launch earlier this year, and the lack of certain key features has affected many users who actually care about this platform Thankfully, the developers seem to be listening to user feedback and implementing what they are asking for

New app updates are still being rolled out to users, so if you don't already have the option to delete your account, you're going to have to sit tight
