Sharp Announces First Ever OLED TV "Roku" - Now on Sale

Sharp was the manufacturer of some of the best televisions in the late 90s and early 90s However, Sharp Home Electronics Company of America (SHCA) has announced that it will launch two new TVs at the end of 2023

The Sharp AQUOS OLED 4K UHD will be available starting today (November 15) from retailers such as Value Electronics for $1,500 for the 55-inch screen size or $1,999 for the 65-inch screen size

According to Sharp's specs, the AQUOS OLED will use a 30W audio system to provide Dolby Atmos audio; as for HDR support, this OLED supports Dolby Vision IQ and standard HDR10 and HLG, but HDR10 + is not supported

Unfortunately, these specs alone will not be enough to overwhelm those who already own the best OLED TVs from Samsung, Sony, and LG

Another TV series announced today is Sharp's mainstream 4K UHD, which uses only 60Hz LED-LCD panels and low-wattage (16W) sound systems and comes in sizes from 50" to 75" Obviously cheaper than OLEDs, but with lower specs

When one hears the name Sharp, one thinks of the Japanese electronics company that pioneered LCD TVs The company withdrew from the US TV market more than a decade ago due to increased competition

Since 2015, Sharp's US operations have been owned by Hisense, but Sharp has regained its brand and began releasing new products of its own in 2019

"We are pleased to be working with Roku to support their return to the US market, where they are as competitive as they are with TVs," said Jim Sanduski, president of Sharp Home Electronics Company of America [The immersive experience of the AQUOS OLED panel means customers can enjoy the full potential of Sharp's Roku TV sets with the rich entertainment options and original content that Roku offers its customers

It remains to be seen how this new and improved Sharp will fare against new QD-OLED models like the Samsung S95C OLED and Sony A95L OLED, but for TV lovers like me, it's nice to see a familiar face reappear after a long absence It's a good thing
