Can't find a PS5 refill? This retro console brings game boy games to your TV

The day will soon come when you can play your favorite Game Boy titles on your TV screen, and Hyperkin has announced that the retro game console we've all been longing for, the RetroN Sq, will hit store shelves on March 25 and is now available for pre-order for just $75

The company first announced the device in 2017 as an April Fool's prank product Later at CES 2020, Hyperkin officially unveiled the RetroN Jr, a game console that brings back Game Boy nostalgia The device was later renamed the RetroN Sq (Sq meaning square, in honor of its compact cubic shape)

Today, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S dominate the console market, but for those of us who miss the feeling of retro gaming, we couldn't be more excited about the new RetroN Sq gaming console Available in Hyper Beach (bright turquoise blue exterior with fuchsia-colored buttons) and Black Gold (black exterior with gold-colored buttons), it is currently available for pre-order for $7499 [The console is compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color (GBC), and Game Boy Advance (GBA) cartridges (beta functionality) There is also a memory card slot on the back of the console for firmware updates

Hyperkin's retro gaming console connects to a TV via HDMI input; the RetroN Sq allows users to play games upscaled to 720p resolution with the option of switching between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios

The design of the console itself bears a striking resemblance to Nintendo's GameCube game console, which was released in 2001 This will no doubt cause some of us to flash back to our childhoods

The RetroN Sq console comes with one wired USB "Scout" controller We couldn't help but notice that its shape and button layout bear a striking resemblance to Nintendo's SNES controllers of the early 90s The 10-foot-long cable connecting the controller to the console is not ideal, but it would be long enough to play on a standard-sized living room couch The console also comes with a 3-foot-long HDMI cable and a 6-foot-long USB-C cable with AC adapter

The good news is that the RetroN Sq is scheduled to ship on March 25, so it won't be long before you can relive the games of the 90s and early 2000s on your TV
