Google Pixel6 and Pixel Fold were discovered in the Android12 beta

Disappointed by the lack of hardware announcements at Google I/O? However, after rooting around and asking about the Android 12 beta, it seems that there were a few teasers

References to the Google Pixel 6, Google Pixel Fold, and Google Pixel 5a were all found within the Android 12 beta 1 code by 9to5Google These appear to confirm previous rumors about these devices, although there are still many uncertainties

The codenames Oriole and Raven were discovered and are believed to refer to two Pixel 6 models that may be called the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Also discovered was the name Passport, which is already attached to the Pixel Fold These names were accompanied by model numbers in Japan: GR1YH, GF5KQ, and GPQ72, respectively

The codename "Barbet" and model number G4S1M were also found in code; according to 9to5Google, this likely refers to the Pixel 5a, Google's upcoming mid-range device that will replace the Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G

Oddly enough, it was also codenamed "Needlefish," which was thought to be a 5G-enabled version of the Pixel 4 that did not make it to launch This is important as it demonstrates the limitations of scrutinizing code for leaked information It can prove to be accurate, but it can also lead us down a route that Google is no longer exploring

The Pixel 5a is expected to launch this summer It is believed to take many design cues from the Pixel 4a 5G, including the basic shape, dual rear cameras, and even the same Snapdragon 765 chipset If there are no major changes to the current model, it will be interesting to see how the Pixel 5a fares against new budget phones like Samsung's Galaxy A52 5G

The Pixel 6 will arrive in the fall and should feature significant changes Recent design leaks have shown a new three-tone design with modified front and back detailing It may also feature Google's first triple camera array and its first custom-designed chipset, codenamed "Whitechapel"

The expected release date for the Pixel Fold is not yet known The design also does not appear to be final, and Google is working on both a two- and three-part folding design The device is still shrouded in mystery, but hopefully it will become a reality in the near future
