The "Saints Row" series has been dormant since 2015, but like "Third Street Saints" itself, the franchise can't be held down for long; at Gamescom 2021, we learned about a reboot of the series that will keep its over-the-top humor and raunchy gameplay while back down to earth, we learned about the "Saints Row" reboot
For those unfamiliar with "Saints Row," the first game is a slightly bizarre take on "Grand Theft Auto" in which you play as an up-and-coming criminal in a city where wreaking havoc is the way to get to the top In "Saints Row IV," he had superpowers to fight aliens in a real-world computer simulation and become president of the United States
The reboot seems to be aiming for the middle ground, combining charismatic characters with decidedly cartoonish physics We don't know that much about the game yet, but we do know that it will aim for the same tone that made the "Saints Row" series such a hit in the first place
The new trailer for "Saints Row" was first shown during the opening night keynote at gamescom 2021 on August 25, 2021 It can be viewed below:
If you have played the Saints Row games, you will be quite familiar with the content The Saints of Third Street harass rival gangs, banter amongst themselves, and ultimately steal cars and run away from enemies with rocket launchers This time the action seems to take place in a Las Vegas-style desert town There are chases, explosions, and one-liners It's a classic
Those who have been waiting long and hard for the next Saints Row movie won't have to wait much longer The Saints Row reboot will arrive on February 25, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Epic Games Store) The base game will be priced at $60, with fancier and more expensive versions expected to appear, probably in the coming months
The "Saints Row" reboot trailer shown at Gamescom did not include any gameplay, focusing instead on the pre-rendered story portion However, the opening keynote at Gamescom 2021 did show a bit of "Saints Row" gameplay, which is not yet available on the Saints Row YouTube channel, but can be seen around the 38-minute mark of the opening keynote recording
The gameplay is exactly what one would expect from a "Saints Row" title, shooting bad guys both on foot and in vehicles It is the most fun (and most humorous) part of the Saints Row game
Besides that, there are many other things we don't know about the Saints Row reboot Is it a hard reboot or will it continue some of the storyline of the original series? How will characters and vehicles be customized? And most importantly, will it aim for the down-to-earth feel of the earlier games or the completely blown away feel of the later games?
We'll find out on February 25, so stay tuned for additional information in Tom's Guide
