A large number of screenshots of games to be released on the PS5 have been uploaded to the Internet, giving a preview of what the next generation of games will be like
The screenshots, uploaded by our colleagues at GamesRadar, range from the realistic "Gran Turismo 7" to the cartoonish "Astro's Playroom" They serve as a snapshot of the range and breadth of games coming to Sony's next-generation console
Of particular note is the collection of screenshots for Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, and Resident Evil 8
Horizon Forbidden West looks very beautiful Its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, also looked great on PS4, but the sequel has been upgraded with impressive visuals, previewing a world full of detail and flashy graphic effects
While it's hard to tell from the screenshots of "Resident Evil 8: Resident Evil Village," the oppressive and eerie atmosphere of "Resident Evil 7" and "Resident Evil 4" is conveyed through shots of the graveyard beneath a fog-covered castle
Also, the demon-engraved door looks as if it has the classic Resident Evil key puzzle
The third screenshot shows a wooden floor with what appears to be a summoning spell for a Cthulhu-like creature
The use of shadows, environmental detail, and desaturated color palette help convey that this is very much a horror game, more inclined to be creepy than to throw hordes of monsters at the player
Returnal is a slightly different game It centers on an astronaut, Selene, who crash-lands on a shape-shifting world and must explore the ruins of an ancient civilization in order to survive
One of the new screenshots suggests that the game will have puzzle elements Another suggests that the game will lean heavily on exploring atmospheric, isolated worlds
As for Gran Turismo 7, the usual screenshots have been released, showing off details of the cars and what appears to be ray tracing, where highly reflective surfaces reflect the world to the player's eyes
Astro's Playroom, which will be pre-installed on the PS5, looks simple to begin with However, the screenshots show that the game hides a great deal of detail on the surface, and judging by the reflections on the characters' shiny shells, ray tracing may have been used
And Bugsnax is a similar story, with the screenshots showing off a cartoonish world that seems to be quite detailed However, it is not as polished as Astro's Playroom [These new screenshots suggest that the graphical fidelity is considerably better than PS4,
which also has some very impressive games like "The Last of Us 2"
