The Bose Sport earbuds were only released a few months ago, but it appears that the company is already working on another competitor to the Apple AirPods in the wireless earbud category
Documents filed with the FCC show pictures of a radically new design that will appeal to those who don't like the tight fit of in-earbuds while working out
Unlike the Bose Sport, the new earbuds are clearly not designed to be worn in the ear Instead, they are completely open, with a plastic hook that places the buds against the ear opening This will not only appeal to those who don't like the feeling of having something plugged into their ear canal, but also to runners who find that conventional earbuds block out too much noise effectively, making them unaware of their surroundings
The earphones pictured have physical buttons, but this does not mean that there are not also touch controls of some sort For example, on the company's QuietComfort earphones, you can adjust the volume by tapping the right bud
One interesting note is the charger, which looks like a traditional cradle rather than an AirPods-style carrying case
Thankfully, we don't have to guess about the name: "Sport Open Earbuds" is not only mentioned numerous times in the text, but also seems to be more than just an internal codename, and is actually listed on the back of the charger:
Of course, the photo and brand name don't reveal much Not much can be learned, and the design is certainly not offensive, but one would need to actually hear the sound before passing judgment For sports earphones to be a good companion on the move, they need to be highly sweat-resistant and have a long battery life And that's before considering price
Given that Bose has not officially announced the Sport Open Earbuds, it is not surprising that no release date has been set Nevertheless, if they are already registered with the FCC, it would not be surprising if an announcement is not too far off Attention
