Hello Strands fans! This one felt pretty tricky to me - even as a child of the 1980s, I can't say that all the styles and fashions immediately came to mind, so I can only imagine how a younger person would have coped.
I had an idea what the “back in style” theme was referring to, but I hadn't narrowed down the decade, so I used the hints, as a search for “flare” and “mini skirt” turned up nothing.
As a result, NEON was hit and I was able to focus. I soon found JUMPSUIT on the right and SPANDEX above it. Then I saw MULLET in the lower left corner.
After this flurry, I was struggling again, so I used the second clue and found PERM in the lower right, which gave me enough space to complete the spangram: EIGHTIES.
The only answer left was one in the upper left, but it was a long anagram Eventually, it was successfully deciphered: WINDBREAKER.
