Pluto TV has announced a partnership with NBCUniversal that will bring several television shows and at least two new genre channels to its streaming service in Canada and the UK beginning November 1. This will cement its position as one of the best free streaming services, even if its availability in the U.S. is erratic.
In Canada, Pluto TV will add all seasons of its long-running show “Will & Grace,” as reported by Streaming Media. The original broadcast ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, with three more seasons to be added from 2017 to 2020. The show will air on More Pluto TV's comedy channel along with other NBC shows such as “Becker,” “Wings,” and “Dear John” starring Judd Hirsch.
Across the pond, Brits will be able to access the cult favorite “Psycho,” a weekly silly show that ran for eight seasons on the USA Network. The show will be added to the new Pluto TV Comedy Drama channel. Other shows being added to the new channel include “Scorpion,” “The Millers,” and “The Odd Couple.” [Both countries will have two new channels, Pluto TV 80s Action and Pluto TV Sci-Fi. [In partnership with NBCUniversal, the 80s Action channel will air such 80s classics as “The A-Team,” “Miami Vice,” and “Knight Rider”; the Sci-Fi channel will air “Quantum Leap” and “Sliders. on the Sci-Fi channel. The press release also mentions “Battlestar Galactica,” but does not say whether it is the original 1978 show or the 2004 remake by Ronald D. Moore. It will. [Collaborating with an industry leader like NBCUniversal not only brings legendary titles to our platform, but also strengthens the FAST business and gives fans access to the content they love. There is a strong affinity for comedy among British and Canadian audiences, and we are excited to bring them a treasure trove of comedic content.”
For those who don't know, Pluto TV, owned by Paramount, is a free streaming service featuring live channels that show blocks of shows like “Will & Grace” on specific genre channels. The service also offers on-demand episodes and movies.
As far as we know, Pluto TV does not offer the aforementioned programming outside of Canada and the UK.
