Forget “Fallout” - Prime Video's next big video game TV adaptation is in development.

Amazon is apparently attempting to follow up the phenomenal success of “Fallout” with another major video game adaptation: “Mass Effect,” Variety reports that the streaming service has just begun development on BioWare's space opera RPG.

Details are still scarce, but the site reports that Daniel Casey is on board to write the script (he wrote “F9: The Fast Saga”) and executive producers include BioWare producers Mike Gamble and Ali Arad. The latter has a track record of making video game adaptations, including “Uncharted” and, for better or worse, “Borderlands.”

It will be interesting to see how the “Mass Effect” TV series takes shape. The sprawling video game series owes no small amount of credence to “Star Trek,” and hasn't had a recent entry since 2017's “Mass Effect: Andromeda.” whether Amazon MGM Studios decides to stay true to the game or go in another direction remains It remains to be seen.

BioWare has teased a fifth “Mass Effect” game, which may see the return of the famous protagonist, Commander Shepard.

While it's not always a sure thing to roll the dice with a video game adaptation (just look at the aforementioned “Borderlands” movie), we'd argue that Amazon is onto a good thing. Because “Mass Effect” is so dense, it has more than enough material to make a very watchable sci-fi show, given the right direction. Especially if Amazon invests money in world-building with a “Ring of Power”-level budget.

Sadly, there is no word on when “Mass Effect” will be available on Prime Video, and while “Fallout” Season 2 is officially in production, it too has no release date yet. We may have to wait until 2025, if not 2026, for the adventure to continue.

All is not lost, however, and while we wait for Amazon to deliver the goods, here are the seven best video game adaptations available for streaming right now.
