Google Circle to Search enables identification of files and songs

Files by Google may be getting a Circle to Search upgrade to match Made by Google and the new Pixel 9 series

After disassembling the latest APK file for the Files by Google app, 9to5 discovered that when an image is opened, a button (one of two designs) may appear above the normal edit button Tapping this second button opens the Circle to Search interface

Since the only thing that opens in Circle to Search is the image, the application's UI does not get in the way of the search

Annoyingly, this appears to be a server-side change for users of the beta version of the app So even if you install the beta version, there is no guarantee that you will be able to test this out

However, another setting that seems to work locally is to turn on “AI-generated summary” for text files opened in Files by Google; this is not a problem if you are using a Pixel, but may not be available on other types of Android phones

In other Circle to Search news, according to Android Authority, Google may soon offer the ability to ID songs playing nearby

Google already offers the Now Playing feature on the Pixel lock screen and clearly knows how to add the feature elsewhere However, the Audio Search feature will tell you what is playing both in your environment and on your device by simply selecting the new note button from the regular “Circle to Search” menu

This feature does not actually work in practice, sadly, if you try to test it However, this must be enabled soon so that users with compatible phones can try it out

This is all while we wait for today's Made by Google event to begin Presumably, Google will formally announce these features as part of its announcements regarding Gemini and Android 15 However, unlike Google's promised reveal of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, these are not guaranteed To stay up to date, be sure to join Made by Google's live blog
