It has been reported that Apple's iOS18 update will allow real-time voice transcription and summarization on supported iPhones
This information comes to us thanks to AppleInsider, which reports that apple is working on ai-powered summaries and enhanced speech transcription for some of its next-generation operating systemsAccording to people familiar with this issue These new features are expected to significantly improve the efficiency of some of the iPhone's staple apps, such as notes and voice memos
It seems that the update changes the appearance of the Voice memo app, with transcription occupying the central area of the existing window, replacing the current graphical representation of the recorded audio The prerelease version of both voice notes and notes will reportedly show transcription of audio recorded in the app when tapped, and a dedicated transcription bub
This potential new feature will help benefit many people, especially those who record more recordings for work or study Being able to record meetings, lectures and other conversations is already a handy iPhone feature, but being able to easily see transcripts and summaries of these recordings is even better
These improvements will obviously come in the form of app updates that fall around the same time as iOS 18, and will be fully announced at WWDC6 on May 2024 The same update will also be available on macOS15 and iPadOS18, so Apple doesn't seem to keep this just for phones
iOS18 is one of the biggest updates we've seen in Apple's history, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says a lot1 There have been many rumors and statements about updates such as Siri, which have been greatly improved, and that Apple has spoken with OpenAI to bring chatgpt-powered features to their devices For more news and rumors about Apple's next update, check out iOS18hub, which is regularly updated
