Apple introduced iOS175 this week and recommended that the iPhone be updated as soon as possible The latest iOS update was meant to fix a number of security vulnerabilities, but it appears that a new bug has been introduced
As reported by MacRumors, a nasty new bug apparently re deleted photos from previous years, in some cases, in the photo library
Many Reddit users have reported this bug in various Apple-based subreddit
One user sold the wiped iPad to a friend and claimed that old photos were showing up in the Photos app after the 175 update "I see other reports about this How many people get photos of others on devices purchased from others? They asked
That user says he followed Apple's guide to wiping the device and then did not log in to the device
Other users have chimed in with similar experiences,"Saw 15 duplicate and saw some recent photos but not even related to the age of the date back They are just random photos I have to [sic] Oh dear long deleted a long time ago," said one Redditor
Another said, "An absolute photo (deleted 2 years ago) that is never intended to reach the surface again pops up as a new photo in my camera roll
Some "useful" Redditors are reminding you that digital stuff won't actually get permanently deleted unless the files are actively overwritten
It is not entirely clear why the 175 update introduced this particular bug, or whether the update was related to the security flaw it was trying to fix
This may not make sense as a kind of reset in the system if it was just a recently deleted image The Photos app keeps deleted media on recently deleted albums for 30 days in case someone wants to recover them
MacRumors speculates that it may be an attempt to fix a photo sync bug from the 173 update This may be related to iCloud and what is kept or deleted there, or sync issues between your device and iCloud
When you review the fix that Apple says was released for 175, it doesn't mention anything about the photos app or camera Although the synchronization service also received fixes and screenshot tools Perhaps something in that area
Apple has not responded in a feed or post on this issue See if that will be an ongoing issue, or if Apple will release a fix in the coming days
