Sony is making it very easy to play PlayStation games online with friends At some point "in the coming months," Sony will launch an option to create a shareable link and send it to a friend to easily join a multiplayer session You also do not have to be a friend on the PlayStation Network
The link can be created on the PS5 console, the PlayStation website, or the PlayStation app, and can be sent through any messaging platform or social media Anyone can immediately join a multiplayer session by opening the link, which appears to be accessible via the usual URL and QR code
Basically, this takes all the hassle out of arranging a multiplayer game session At the very least, you can ask one of your friends, "Do you want to play a game of Call of Duty?" to one of your friends
For those already connected to Discord, Sony has developed a widget that shares PS5 session invites through the service The widget refreshes the status of multiplayer, showing the game being played, the number of players connected, and options for other players to join
Sony states that the changes are designed to complement the current method of joining game sessions and will be available for all supported PS5 games However, some of these games may need to be updated for the new system to work seamlessly
It is not known exactly when the new session participation method will be rolled out to gamers, other than Sony's rather vague "next few months" timeline And while this feature seems like something that should have been released much earlier, it is better late than never Let's hope it works as seamlessly as Sony suggests
