Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks Tease Major Joy-Con Upgrade and Good News for Pro Controller Owners

Ever since it was reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 had been pushed back to 2025, the rumor mill has pretty much stopped But finally, there has been a new leak regarding Nintendo's (currently unannounced) next-generation hardware, which suggests a significant upgrade to the Joy-Con

According to Spanish publication Vandal (and spotted by VGC), the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a new style Joy-Con controller, which will attach magnetically to the console's body This is a major change from the rail-based system used on the original Switch, and also suggests that the current Joy-Con will not be forward compatible with the Switch 2

This could be a very nifty upgrade, as the Joy-Con rail system has caused headaches for many users In my experience, the metal and plastic rails are a bit flimsy, and when the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, many users accidentally installed the included Joy-Con straps upside down

This was a very common problem, so common that Nintendo had to create a custom-made support page to help users resolve the issue Perhaps a Joy-Con that attaches magnetically would not have the same problem and would be much easier to remove from the console itself when needed

The same report also states that the current Nintendo Switch Pro controller (available on Amazon for $69) is compatible with the Switch 2 This would be seriously good news: not only would the Switch Pro controller be the most enjoyable way to enjoy the best Nintendo Switch games, but current owners would not have to purchase a potentially expensive new model designed specifically for the Switch 2

Vandal has previously leaked some of the Nintendo Switch OLED upgrades ahead of the October 2021 launch, so there is reason to be optimistic that this report is accurate However, until we receive some concrete information from Nintendo, it should still be classified as unconfirmed information

We should remember that even the Switch2 has yet to be officially announced, so details about the heavily rumored hardware should be taken with a great deal of grain

This is the latest in a large wave of Nintendo Switch 2 rumors Previous leaks suggest that the console will be revealed sometime in June, but its spec sheet is a bit disappointing, and it may turn out to be a console that is not quite as next-gen as we have come to expect

With so many leaks and rumors circulating, it is difficult to separate fact from fiction Let's hope that Nintendo will give us some solid details in the near future
