PS5 Pro specs leak prompts Sony to investigate - here's what we know

Over the past few days, there have been a large number of leaks regarding the PS5 Pro's specifications While companies like Sony are never interested in commenting on the legitimacy of leaks, Sony has reportedly launched an investigation to determine where the PS5 Pro leaks are coming from

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming tweeted the news late Monday, claiming that Sony had launched an internal investigation into how the documents were leaked Henderson is not sure what that means at this point, as he believes that Sony is unlikely to catch a personal offender

However, he notes that since the documents were leaked during the third-party rollout, Sony may be "reducing the third-party developer pool for new technology as a result" If this is the case, fewer developers will be available to work on new hardware before it is announced, potentially extending the wait for new, optimized games

This is not ideal, as there is often a significant gap between the release of new hardware and a large influx of new games This waiting period was already long enough with PS5 and does not need to be any longer

While there is no proof that the leaked specs are accurate, the fact that Sony seems to be investigating their sources suggests that there is some truth to them After all, if all the information were completely false, wouldn't Sony investigate the leaks?

The problem is that we don't know what is true and what is false, and it will likely not be clear until Sony announces the PS5 Pro in the future

The latest leaks claim that the PS5 Pro will offer a 28% performance boost due to 576GB of system memory and a new "high CPU frequency mode" The CPU is said to be the same as the original PS5, but in this mode the CPU clock could be boosted up to 35GHz This would be a 10% improvement over the previous model

The console will also offer a 35% improvement in audio, the specifics of which are unknown at this time However, we expect the PS5 Pro's spatial audio to be more accurate and impressive compared to the original PS5 and PS5 Slim

The PS5 Pro has a significantly enhanced GPU and has been mentioned many times as possibly being capable of 8K gaming Rendering is expected to be 45% faster than PS5, and ray tracing performance is expected to quadruple for some games There is also talk of 335 teraflops of computing power, an enhanced upscaling system called "PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling," and even integration of machine learning and AI accelerators

Needless to say, these rumors paint a very positive picture of what we can expect when the PS5 Pro arrives The only real question is when it will be We don't know yet, but from the information that is leaking out, it would not be surprising to see a new gaming console by the end of the year
