According to a recent poll on Reddit, the screen problems with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series are far from over Some users feel that the screen has a rough texture, especially on dark or gray backgrounds
According to a post on Reddit, the problem appears to be widespread, affecting users of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra models We checked the Galaxy S24 Ultra we reviewed for the same issue, but could not see any grainy texture
One Redditor placed his phone under a powerful 400x OM tool (a type of microscope) to check his Galaxy S24 Ultra and claimed that at 10% brightness, the brightness uniformity between pixels was significantly less than at 50% This lack of uniformity makes some pixels appear missing to the user and the screen appears coarse
This problem is known as the unevenness effect, or "fogging," and is a common defect in many LCD and OLED screens comments that other customers were denied replacement and had to escalate the issue
This is not the first problem Samsung has had with the S24 series screens Recently, there were reports on Reddit complaining about the lackluster Vivid Color profile on the Galaxy S24 Ultra Many users thought this was a software issue, but Samsung forcefully argued that it was an intentional design choice However, there are reports that a future update will implement a slider that will allow users to adjust the color profile to their liking
There were also posts on Reddit that certain models showed three horizontal bars on the display at low brightness These usually occur because the phone is unable to create enough color shading to easily smooth them together at low brightness, leading to slightly darker toned lines
Thankfully, this problem seems to affect fewer users than the grainy texture issue Bars on cell phone screens are not a new phenomenon and are quite common, but if they are too distinct or appear constantly, the phone's screen may be defective
Finally, some people have complained of seeing excessive banding when viewing gradient images However, there are claims on Reddit that this is more of a software issue and may be resolved soon
The Galaxy S24 series is a nice improvement and one of the best phones we have tested However, the fact that this is not the first screen issue that has been reported is troubling Hopefully, repairs will be made and those affected will be able to get replacements We will keep you updated as we have more information
