Google's Pixel phones have some great features that take most of the hassle out of making phone calls, but it looks like they may be making the jump to Google Search as well It appears to be a version of "Hold for Me" for desktops and non-Pixel phones
9to5Google has discovered a new experimental feature called "Talk to a Live Representative" The idea is that when you search for a customer service number, Google will call you on your behalf and someone on the other end will call you back
The way it works is very simple You request a call from a supported business and tell Google why you need to speak to someone from a drop-down list of choices These businesses include airlines, cell phone carriers, large retailers, couriers, insurance companies, etc
You also need to tell them the phone number to which Google Search will send updates Once all this is done, the request page will show the expected wait time and you can cancel your request whenever you like
There are similarities to Pixels' "Hold for Me" feature, but you still have to make the call yourself and navigate through the various phone menus; Talk to a Live Representative skips that initial step, and allows you to call the The system operates in such a way that you get a call back from the company you are trying to call But again, there is no need to go through the motions of organizing it yourself
Unfortunately, this is an experimental feature for now and not widely available Google told 9to5Google that talking to a live representative is available to Search Lab users in the US through Chrome on desktop and the Google app on Android and iOS
It is not known when this feature will be rolled out to more users Needless to say, it's a pretty useful feature Especially since you don't have to use a Pixel Phone or Google Assistant to use this feature
