If you click on a login link and are confronted with an unfamiliar login screen, you may be a bit skeptical After all, this could be a scam, and entering your information could mean handing your information over to hackers But if such a thing happens while you are logged into Google, don't worry too much
That's because Google is rolling out an entirely new login screen that promises a "more modern look and feel" than the current login screen Apparently this is a purely visual change, in line with all the other Material Design changes Google has made over the past few years
Instead of making sweeping changes, Google is trying to make the existing login screen more minimalistic There is less clutter on the screen, but enough of a difference to ring some alarm bells
The good news is that you probably aren't being phished; all the usual rules for not falling prey to phishing scams apply, such as checking URLs and not clicking on unfamiliar links sent to your inbox But the new Google login screen is nothing to worry about
If you've received a concerned call from your parents about this, it's because the new login screen began rolling out to desktops and mobiles on February 21 and was available worldwide by March 4
So the next time you need to access your Google account, don't be surprised if the login page suddenly changes - whether it's Gmail, Drive, Photos, or something else entirely
