Most electric bikes are designed either for commuting around town or for off-road adventures Canyon's latest Grizl:ON e-bike, however, aims to combine both in a lightweight, durable, and long-lasting package
In our experience, the best electric-assist bikes tend to be those designed for everyday activities, such as bicycle commuting or as an alternative to short-distance car trips Therefore, it is interesting that Canyon is aiming to improve versatility [Grizl:ON CF 7 ($4,999) and Grizl:ON CF 9 ($5,999) Both are Class 3 e-bikes with motors that can reach speeds of up to 28 mph
They also have a built-in 400 Wh battery, more than enough for daily rides around town [But you don't have to worry about that with the Grizl:ON bike; Canyon's ST0037 Stem hides all the technology, so you can just pop your cell phone on the mount and enjoy cycling
Both Grizl:ON bikes are made of carbon fiber, lightweight (3526 lbs for the CF 7, 3427 lbs for the CF 9), and come in frames ranging from XS to XL, so the two models have some things in common
However, given the $1,000 price difference between the two bikes, the CF 9 has a few premium features, including an upgraded suspension fork and a slightly lighter, higher performance chain mechanism
Despite the new name, this is not the first time Canyon has released a bike designed for commuting and fun riding; in 2020, Canyon introduced the Grit:ON series for gravel track cycling, but it is also starting to be used for commuting [Grizl:ON has a lightweight frame that can get you on the road quickly, but also features a durable design, a range extender, and a lighting system that stays on for two hours even after the battery runs out
Of course, neither bike is cheap, with each model costing several thousand dollars However, the Grizl:ON bikes will likely face stiff competition from our current favorite electric bike, the Rad Power RadCity 5 Plus, which can be purchased starting at $1,999 but does not have the same circuit-riding capabilities
But if you're looking for something to ride around town without as many smart features, the best budget electric bikes are a good place to start
