Last year, Motorola showed that it could make a flagship phone that could compete with the best Android phones in the form of the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) And according to renderings that have appeared on the web, its follow-up is coming soon
The rendered image posted on Android Headlines claims to show the upcoming Motorola Edge 50 Plus But it's the phone that US shoppers know by another name as the Edge Plus After all, the Motorola Edge 40 Plus launched in the UK last year and was rebranded as the Motorola Edge Plus when it launched in North America Other than a teaser posted on Chinese site Weibo, Motorola has not said much, but the leaked rendered image says a lot on its own
From the rendered images, it appears that Motorola is planning three colors for this year's Edge Plus: purple, black, and a stone color with white and gray accents The black and purple versions have a uniform color on the back, while the gray version appears to be textured depending on the color scheme
The renderings also show that the Edge Plus will have three rear cameras, reportedly a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/14 f-stop, a 13mm wide-angle camera, and a 73mm telephoto lens with a 6x zoom capability Motorola will also offer laser autofocus These are all upgrades from the 2x zoom offered by the Motorola Edge Plus 2023's 12MP portrait camera, which is comparable to the 5x zoom offered by one of the Galaxy S24 Ultra's telephoto lenses
On the front of this year's model, Motorola will again likely use a curved display, as seen in the rendered image The company also appears to be planning to drill holes for the front-facing camera, leaving plenty of room in the screen area Reportedly, it will have a 67-inch display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz, which is the same as last year's display specs
Motorola's new flagship should pack quite a punch, as it is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that powers the Galaxy S24 lineup in North America Motorola's phone is expected to feature 12GB of RAM, a 4,500mAh battery, and support both 125W wired charging and 50W wireless charging (Wired charging speeds may not be included in the North American version) OnePlus, which similarly offers fast charging, has capped the wired charging speed at 80W for the US version of phones like the OnePlus 12 because of different electrical standards)
Weibo teasers for the Motorola Edge 50 Plus hint at AI-powered features, which is not surprising; AI was a major focus of the Galaxy S24 launch and the iOS 18 software update will focus on AI and will be front and center in the iPhone 16 this fall as well
It is unclear when Motorola's new flagship will arrive, but renderings suggest April 3 However, it could be limited to phones shipping in China and other parts of the world The Motorola Edge Plus (2024) is likely to launch in the US much later
