LG has made some changes to its 2024 TV lineup, most notably announcing the QNED series, which will feature either IPS or VA LCD panels
According to FlatpanelsHD, which saw several upcoming LG TVs at an event in Frankfurt, Germany, the 98-inch QNED89T used a VA panel rather than the IPS display type designed by LG itself [The QNED90T and QNED91T also have VA LCD panels and may be offered via TCL CSOT [LG's IPS technology takes advantage of wide viewing angles, but at the cost of reduced contrast On the other hand, the QNED series offers some of the best TVs with VA panels, including TCL's QM8 Mini-LED TV and Samsung's QLED TV QN90C
LG highlighted several QNED TVs in its 2024 TV lineup with a mix of VA and IPS panels in the QNED91T, QNED90T, and QNED89T This panel shift will seemingly take place in a variety of sizes and regions, which means that consumers are not quite sure which panels they are buying
As already noted, the 98-inch QNED89T uses a VA panel, while the 86-inch models of the QNED90T and QNED91T are always IPS displays These QNED TVs 86" and 98" and smaller sizes are effectively the dreaded panel lottery for those considering upgrading in 2024
According to FlatpanelsHD, the 65-inch QNED91T shown at the German event had a VA LCD panel that offered much better performance and contrast in dark environments Still, the display's viewing angle was reduced, but this is to be expected with VA panels
IPS panels were first designed by LG itself and offer a wider field of view at the expense of contrast VA panels, on the other hand, are often a better choice, not only because of their more realistic and improved picture quality, but also due to the fact that viewing angle is not necessarily a major factor for consumers [LG's switch from IPS panels to VA panels follows what is considered another panel draw from Samsung's 2024 TV lineup, which could include several OLED TVs with WOLED or QD-OLED panels Samsung responded to TechRadar that "Samsung's OLED TVs consistently deliver a premium experience, regardless of the specific panel that is incorporated into the product However, Samsung has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations
