MacStories' Federico Vittici discovered that iOS 17 has the ability to read obscure and difficult language in laundry signs
This new feature is part of the iPhone's Visual Lookup system, which can now identify things like plants and remove backgrounds from photos where the subject is obvious
iOS 17 also adds the ability to create stickers for use in messaging apps, search for recipes related to the food in a photo, translate diagnostic lights on a car dashboard, and help with laundry
Like the car's warning lights, the iPhone reads laundry information from the ISO website
Users can get a small explanation of what the symbols mean in the Visual Lookup window, but if they want to double-check what they are doing before putting their precious clothes in the washer or dryer, they can tap any of them to open the source page in Safari
Of course, there are already guides to laundry symbols that you can refer to, but it is certainly helpful to be able to view only the relevant symbol information iPhone does not set up your washer or dryer for you (at least not yet) Don't rely solely on quick laundry settings!
iOS 17 has not yet been released to the general public with a compatible iPhone in hand It is currently in developer beta, and given Apple's historic launch timing, a public beta is likely to appear within a few weeks
A stable release, meaning that most people will actually be able to download and try out the best features of iOS 17, is likely around September This is easily predictable, as Apple usually links its releases to the launch of the latest iPhones
