The Samsung Galaxy S23 release date is just two weeks away, and thanks to various rumors, we have a better idea of what to expect from Samsung's flagship phone, including how much it might cost
Recently, it was rumored that Samsung may raise the price of the S23 model by more than $100 This would be a bitter pill for consumers to swallow, especially since Apple did not raise the price of the iPhone 14 series There is also the small matter of the brink of recession
However, there is some good news According to one leaked source, Samsung's upcoming S23 series may not be headed for a price hike after all
9to5Google (opens in new tab) reports that a carrier leak posted on Reddit (opens in new tab) points to the fact that Samsung may keep the same Galaxy S22 price for the new series this year Verizon's official spec sheet lists leaked starting prices for all S23 models:
This is exactly the same price as the Galaxy S22 series launched last year
Samsung seems to have learned from its Galaxy S20 pricing mistake, as the base model of the same model was launched in 2020 at a whopping $999 The following year, Samsung lowered the price by $200 for all three variants of the Galaxy S21 Since then, Samsung has not played much with pricing and hopes not to do so again this year, when a recession may be looming in consumer spending
Another initial rumor said that only the Galaxy S23 Ultra could see a price jump, while the S23 and S23 Plus would remain the same However, with this new information, it seems likely that we will not see a price increase this year, even in lieu of additional storage, as some rumors had also mentioned
The same pricing as the S22 series would make the decision easier for those considering a new Galaxy phone
The leaked Verizon leaflet also corroborates some of the other rumors about storage and different specs It indicates that all three models could start with 8GB of RAM, and the Galaxy S23 could start with a base model of 128 GB the S23 Plus will have 256 GB of storage, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will also have 256 GB of storage
The S22 Ultra had 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, so it is surprising that Samsung would offer 256GB with 8GB of RAM in the Ultra model
The listing also mentions that both the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra top models have 512GB of storage; the Plus model has 8GB of RAM for more storage, but Samsung could offer 512GB with 12GB of RAM on the S23 Ultra storage could be offered
The leak does not mention 1TB of storage on the S23 Ultra, which we have heard previously
The leaked image also talks about the S23 series' "unparalleled camera," with improved nighttime selfies and video, and a powerful 100x space zoom on the S23 Ultra Most of the other specs reproduce previously leaked spec rumors
Other than the leaked specs, the price of the next flagship is left to the imagination Leaker SnoopyTech (opens in new tab) just released a lifestyle image of the Galaxy S23 series on Twitter that shows Samsung's potential focus on cell phones
The most persistent rumor is a significant jump in megapixels for the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 200MP camera sensor In fact, Samsung's own ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor may be included in the Ultra's camera, and leaked images suggest that Samsung is focusing on this this this time around
Images from the concert show the telephoto capability of the Ultra model Like the S22 Ultra, the S23 Ultra is expected to feature dual 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x zoom and 10x zoom on the back, but this time it should offer better low-light performance
The photos show the phone from all angles, and it looks like Samsung could position the S23 series as an outdoor-specification phone There are also images of the S23 Ultra playing the game "Wreckfest," which seems to show the capabilities of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip In particular, the phone may have a custom version of the processor
Samsung's Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Watch 5 are also visible, suggesting possible pre-orders
Galaxy Unpacked will take place on February 1, where we will officially learn all about the phone For all the latest news and leaks, keep it locked to our Galaxy S23 Hub and Galaxy S23 Ultra Hub
