With only a few days left until the February Unpacked event, we have yet another Galaxy S23 leak Instead of hardware details, details have emerged about the One UI 51 update that will be available for all supported Galaxy phones However, it appears that there will be an upgrade specifically for the Galaxy S23
WinFuture (opens in new tab) (via Android Authority (opens in new tab)) has obtained the complete changelog for the One UI 51 update Things like gallery improvements and easier setup for the Galaxy S23 are listed here, but this is a point release on top of One UI 5 (based on Android 13) As such, no major changes are expected
Concerned? New features are here
Before we share the changelog, we want to highlight the most important new features of One UI 51 based on this leak As we said, this is a point release that lacks major upgrades, and instead Samsung is looking to refine the experience for those picking up one of the three models rumored to be the upcoming Galaxy S23
A major focus seems to be on the Gallery app, where Samsung will offer new features such as sharing family photo albums; if the AI analyzes the faces in a photo and recognizes that a family member is in it, it will suggest sharing it Samsung is offering 5GB of free storage per family member (up to 6 people) If all of this sounds familiar, that's because Google Photos does the same thing
According to the leak, the search functionality in Galleries will also be improved You will be able to search for multiple things at once and search for people by face
One UI 51 will feature an Expert RAW app in the Advanced section of the main camera app This could be great for the upcoming Galaxy S23, which is rumored to be getting a camera upgrade, including a 200MP main camera for the Galaxy S23 Ultra
As for Galaxy S23-specific features, they are not so grand Samsung plans to make it easier to switch from older Galaxy and Android phones to the new S23; using Bluetooth LE, One UI 51 will likely migrate through QR codes, saved networks, and even Samsung and Google accounts
Lastly, I would like to point out the Bixby Call section Here, the Bixby personal assistant will answer the call for you, and you can see the caller's voice come through as text It's intriguing because it looks a lot like the call screen on Google's Pixel phones
Here is a list of the changes One UI 51 should bring to the Galaxy S23 family, broken down by app
Camera
Gallery
AR Zone and AR Emoji
Widgets
Modes and Scenarios
Connection
Samsung DeX
Settings
Samsung Internet
Setup Wizard
Weather
Calls
Interestingly, Samsung itself leaked plans for One UI 51 1 to be included in devices older than the Galaxy S23 was leaked (via 9to5Google (opens in new tab)) The handset maker will likely push the update to "flagship models released after the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip"
This means the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4
It is safe to assume that One UI 51 will be included in other Samsung devices The schedule is not yet known, but it is estimated to be between March and April
If we are to believe this leaked changelog, One UI 51 does not look like a major update The gallery enhancements look good, but it is Samsung playing catch-up with Google again But if for some reason you don't want to use Google Photos, at least you won't miss out on a cool feature
Of course, the Bixby calling feature looks interesting
