A new leak indicates that "Battlefiled 6" will not be set in the World War II setting of its predecessor, but will feature a futuristic setting
The news comes from reputable leaker Tom Henderson, who has released a newsletter filled with new information about the next installment in the long-running shooter series The leaked information includes details about the game's setting, the single-player campaign, and even the news that the game will not be called Battlefield 6
Henderson claims that "Battlefield 6" will be set in the future, but don't worry if jetpacks aren't your thing The game will reportedly be set about 10 years in the future and will feature advanced military robots, drones, and jets, but no Hoover boots
The game also features a single-player campaign that is described as "revolutionary" You work as a Special Forces operative and are recruited by either the US or the Russians
The campaign will also support cooperative play during the campaign Since the last two Battlefield games focused on smaller vignettes called "War Stories," it will be interesting to see if "Battlefield 6" will return to a more structured campaign
Henderson called the online portion of Battlefield 6 "Battlefield 3/4 on steroids" and claimed that a battle royale mode would be present He brushed off widespread claims on Reddit that Battlefield 6 would be a hub for past Battlefield games
Henderson also clarified that "Battlefield 6" will drop the numbers and simply be called "Battlefield," a move that DICE could definitely make if they aim to give the franchise a soft reboot this year
Henderson did not give any clues as to when the game will be released, but fall 2021 seems to be the window currently being targeted We recently heard that Criterion, the developer of the "Need for Speed" series, has suspended work on its next racing game in order to assist DICE in the production of "Battlefield 6" Therefore, we are praying that the game will not be released this year
The game is reportedly being developed with 128-player online competition in mind, so you will probably need a next-generation console (or a powerful PC) to play this game If you're having trouble getting a new console, be sure to check out our guides on where to buy a PS5 and where to buy an Xbox Series X
According to another leak, Battlefield 6 will be officially announced in May So we won't have to wait too long to see if these rumors are indeed correct and to finally get our first look at the game
