Sony is gearing up for summer with the release of three new wireless speakers
There's no doubt what occasions the X Series speakers are targeted for An evening outdoors with friends is one of them, and you need a sturdy portable speaker to cut through the haze of chatter Sony's three new speakers are perfect for parties, with built-in ambient lighting to complement the music
Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but the three models will ship in Australia starting in June 2021, with the SRS-XP700 and SRS-XP500 priced at A$699 (about $420 / 350 pounds) and A$499 (about $300 / 250 pounds) respectively The remaining is the SRS-XG500, which will cost A$629 (about $380 / 320 lbs)
Each speaker features the company's "innovative X-Balanced Speaker Units," which correspond to a non-circular pedestal While this is not the most visually pleasing setup, Sony claims that this construction provides "more sound pressure and less distortion"
If so, one can expect a rich, meaty sound from this unit, which Sony adds will provide clear sound "no matter what style of music you are listening to"
All three speakers feature a "megabass" option, which promises to make the speakers' bass levels even punchier (in more ways than one)
There is also "Live Sound," a universal feature of these speakers that allows listeners to recreate the festival experience
But first and foremost, this is an outdoor speaker, requiring a rugged outer box and waterproofing: the XG500 is IP66 waterproof and dustproof, while the XP700 and XP500 are IPX4 waterproof
All of the speakers are designed for the outdoors, but the XG500 in particular should be able to withstand harsh environments, as it has an IP66 rating
Of course, we still live in pandemic times
But Sony's X Series speakers are sure to excite people's inner party animal All models come with a comfortable carry handle, making it easy to take them from home to wherever the music needs to go
Sony also includes a "Battery Care Mode" that stops 100% of the speaker's charge to extend battery life However, the jury is still out on how well this actually works
In any case, Sony's X Series speakers will likely tap into a younger market that values the presence of audible music over the fineness of the music playing in the background at an event I'm not sure that was Sony's goal with the X-Series
