The Apple AirPods Max may get a minor refresh in the form of new color options, but a second-generation model is unlikely to arrive anytime soon

Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to release new color options for the over-ear headphones Given that Cupertino has only just caught up with the huge demand for the AirPods Max, a proper refresh of the headphones does not appear to be planned However, Bloomberg reiterates that the AirPods 3 will be available this year and the AirPods Pro 2 in 2022

The Apple AirPods Max are immensely popular among users and have been voted our best over-ear headphones

This means that Apple will not have to completely redesign the AirPods Max this year, and the new colors will be positioned as an intermediate step, and a complete redesign will likely be postponed a bit longer This is definitely good news for those who invested $549 in Apple's over-ear headphones not long ago

Currently, Apple offers the AirPods Max in five colors: space gray, green, pink, sky blue, and silver However, given that Apple has a purple iPhone 12, it would not be surprising if a purple version is offered

Bloomberg noted that Apple is "considering launching additional color variations in the future" At this time, there is no detailed information on what these color variations will look like However, it would be nice to see options to mix and match different parts of the AirPods Max, including the ability to customize the cushion to a color of your choice [Especially given that Apple was reportedly considering customization options before first releasing the AirPods Max

Of course, replacement cushions are already available in a variety of colors, but it would be nice to have the option to customize the AirPods Max from the get-go at the point of purchase For now, we will have to wait and see what Apple decides
