iOS147 Update killing cellular service for Some iPhone Users — What to Do

Apple's discussion board has noted that some iPhone users are experiencing problems with cellular service after upgrading to the recently released iOS 147

As noted last week, this issue still seems to be causing problems with iPhones, with some noting that their devices, which were fine before the update, suddenly lost cellular connectivity once they updated to the latest version of iOS 14 This appears as a "No Service" message

Somewhat oddly, Apple has yet to release a statement regarding this rather serious bug However, there is now a dedicated support page that explains in detail what to do if you encounter the "No Service" defect

Apple advises taking a few select steps For example, checking the available communication area and restarting the iPhone The support page also recommends removing the SIM card and reinserting it, and if you have just switched from an Android device, check with your carrier to see if it will work with your iPhone

In addition, Apple provides the following instructions to check for updates to carrier settings

1 verify that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network

2 Tap Settings > General > About If an update is available, an option to update carrier settings will appear

3 To check the version of your device's carrier settings, tap Settings>General>About, then check next to Carrier

We also recommend resetting the network settings on your iPhone or iPad or contacting your carrier to confirm that your account is still active and that there are no outages in your area To do the former, simply go to Settings, then General, then Reset and tap "Reset Network Settings"

If none of the above gets you out of the bug, we recommend contacting Apple However, Apple is planning to release an iOS 148 update, which will likely fix the potential bugs in iOS 147

This is far from a minor bug, so it is completely understandable why some users might be frustrated, especially if they have to wait for a fix from Apple If you are concerned about potential problems, we recommend that you refrain from installing the iOS 147 update if you have not already done so
