However, there are still quite a few things we don't know about the iPhone 13 that will finally be answered at Apple's event From pricing and the main differences between the four models to how the most exciting upgrades might work, here are five major iPhone 13 rumors that need to be revealed in detail

This was a bit of a whirlwind Early in the rumor cycle, it was said that the iPhone 13 would be priced about the same as the iPhone 12 This means that the iPhone 13 mini will start at $699, the iPhone 13 will start at $799, the iPhone 13 Pro will start at $999, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max will start at $1099

While there have been recent reports that the iPhone 13 could be more expensive due to higher production costs, it is hard to imagine Apple charging more than the iPhone 12 series for this year's lineup If anything, the storage tiers could go up slightly Interestingly, one retailer leak suggests that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will not offer any 256GB storage options this year

Apple is reportedly testing Face ID, which can recognize faces even when wearing a mask This is according to FrontPageTech, which claims to have seen several prototype devices that Apple is using to gauge how effective this upgrade will be

This would be a very welcome upgrade for Face ID, given that the iPhone 13 will reportedly not support Touch ID on the display as previously rumored, based on the continued proliferation of Covid-19 and Delta variants it is likely that people will be wearing masks in public for the next few months

The question is whether Apple will be able to get this Face ID upgrade in time for launch, and how well

Rumors suggest that at least some iPhone 13 models will feature an always-on display, presumably allowing users to check the time, battery status, and perhaps notifications at a glance without having to turn the display on completely However, it is not clear if this feature will be limited to the iPhone 13 Pro series or if the regular iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will have always-on screens

Only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max may be treated as always-on, as they may require adaptive 120Hz panels that can reduce the refresh rate At this time, only the iPhone 13 Pro is said to offer this benefit However, I expect all iPhone 13 models to support the always-on display feature

If there is one area where I would like to see Apple catch up to Samsung, it is optical zoom on telephoto lenses For example, the iPhone 12 Pro Max technically has a 5x optical zoom, but the real optical zoom is 25x iPhone 12 Pro has 2x The Galaxy S21 Ultra, on the other hand, has dual 3x and 10x telephoto zoom lenses

There are rumors that Apple is working on a folding or periscope zoom lens for the iPhone 13, but recent reports indicate that Apple will not be able to offer this upgrade until the iPhone 14 in 2022 In the meantime, the iPhone 13 Pro series is said to offer a much improved ultra-wide lens that captures more light and faster autofocus
