Update Roland Moore-Coyer believes the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could be the best Galaxy Note ever
According to Korean news site ETNews, the Samsung Galaxy Note series is officially over Not only will there not be a Samsung Galaxy Note 22, but production of the 2020 Galaxy Note 20 series is apparently coming to an end
Note that ETNews does not specify the source of this information, only stating that it has been "confirmed," but it would not be at all surprising if accurate
However, the retirement of the Galaxy Note name does not mean that the core concept that gave it such a loyal following is lost forever In fact, there are signs that they will be fully adopted in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra model
The Galaxy S22 Ultra strongly resembles the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, according to the latest leaks, with a 681-inch screen (other Galaxy S22 devices are said to be smaller) and a dock for the S Pen
This last point will ring in the ears of those who have strong feelings about the Galaxy Note and were prepared to plead with Samsung to secure its future The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3 both support the S Pen, but the S Pen is a bit of an unwieldy optional accessory There is no dock to hold the S Pen in place when not in use, which makes it feel less integrated with the device and, of course, can easily be misplaced
By putting the S Pen back where it belongs inside the phone, Samsung could hopefully send the message that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is nothing without the S Pen
Given that, does it really matter that it is likely not technically part of the Galaxy Note family? What matters is the hardware, and whether it is an S series or Note phone, as long as it has a large screen and a built-in S Pen, it should prove to be a winner
However, there is one possible downside to this The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is likely to be very expensive, given that the Galaxy S21 Ultra was priced at $1,199, and while it may be a reasonable replacement for the Note 20 Ultra, it has nothing for budget-conscious S Pen enthusiasts Where is the successor to the vanilla Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 10 Lite?
Hopefully, they will be addressed in due time But if not, it will be a real loss for the Note brand, not just a superficial brand name
