Pre-orders for PS5 may be published in 3 months (or not)

While there is still no word on an official PS5 announcement in February, one potential leaker on Twitter noted that all will be revealed in March, when pre-orders for Sony's next-generation console will finally begin

The nugget comes from @PSErebus, who first said so on Twitter on December 28 and again more recently on January 31 PSErebus also claims that Sony's launch event will take place next month and that Gran Turismo 7 pre-orders will begin in the spring claimed that it will also be available for pre-order in the spring Gran Turismo 7 was first rumored as a PS5 launch title last April

Finally, @PSErebus reports that while the DualShock 5 controller will be revealed alongside the console, it will also be on display at the 2020 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco the week of March 16 Incidentally, Sony first unveiled the PlayStation VR headset at GDC 2016, setting a precedent for the company to reveal new hardware at the show

We don't know much about the DualShock 5, aside from an official mention by the system's lead architect, Mark Cerny; in an article published by Wired in October, Cerny talked about the pad's adaptive resistance triggers and advanced haptics

This is obviously a lot of information, and these are far from the first breaking news surrounding the PS5 by @PSErebus The account also reiterates repeatedly (with curious regularity and often cryptic language) that the system will offer full backward compatibility with all of Sony's home platforms, from the original PlayStation to the PS4

The question is whether these rumors should be trusted or denied However, as TechRadar points out, they accurately reported the original release date of The Last Of Us Part 2

Given the swirl of rumors surrounding Sony's release plans, it is easy to make such a claim with little effort; some of what PSErebus is saying has been reported elsewhere and previously, such as the point about backward compatibility Others, like the March release timeframe, are vague and easily explained away if they don't materialize Perhaps it is best to keep these rumors in the realm of "a pinch of salt"

Nevertheless, both the PS5 and Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Series X have greatly accelerated the hype cycle
